Our Education System

The biggest lesson or takeaway from COVID19 is the exposure of faults in different structures and systems across the world. One of them is our education system.

Children are forced to make career choices at such a young age when they have no clue about themselves, their personalities are not yet developed and they are not mature enough to think about what is good for them screwing them up for life. Many adults are incapable of making wise choices. This is a major fault of the prevailing education systems in many countries.

Schools don’t teach the necessary skills. Not many schools build a child’s personality. The environment in schools kills a child’s curious nature. Instead of developing his or her interests, they are forced to follow an outdated curriculum that serves no purpose but to fill the pockets of people making a business out of education and killing the child’s real personality in the name of discipline and obedience.

Schools manufacture workers, employees and followers, not original thinkers. Schools berate those children who think differently. Governments are of no help because it’s difficult to manage people who are truly aware of what’s going on in society.

When will we come to terms with the fact that intelligence is not unidimensional?

There are various expressions and forms of intelligence. It is not right to measure the worthiness of all children using the same scale. Our grading systems are faulty.

How many of the theories learnt at school have we applied in real life and how do you measure the outcome of our education systems in terms of impact on society?
